Welcome to Lakeland Primary School

Lakeland Primary School is working hard to blend the best practices in teaching with what kids really need: fun, movement, and people that love them! You will find our building to be full of energy and positivity. We know that young children need to learn the social side of school, how to behave in situations that are new to them, how to interact with a larger number of other children that they don’t know, etc. We lay the foundation for all of those things with two simple guidelines: Do the Right Thing and Treat People Right. We spend time teaching our students building and classroom procedures that are connected to those ideals. We work hard to teach expectations and to nurture students as they are learning those expectations. When disciplinary circumstances arise, they are handled with keen eye on the students’ emotional well-being.

Our teaching staff is focused on providing the fundamentals of Reading, Writing, and Mathematics so that our students are ready to continue their adventure at Lakeland Intermediate School. We set the foundation by focusing on the elements of reading: Phonemic Awareness, Alphabetic Principles, Vocabulary, Accuracy & Fluency, and finally reading comprehension. We use Orton-Gillingham inspired methods to ensure that every student masters the fundamentals of reading and spelling in the English language. In Mathematics we focus on Number Sense and Problem Solving. Our students are the world’s next problem solvers!

As a new school, we are working to establish our new identity within the Lakeland Community. We believe that being a participating member of our local community is very important. Our students will be involved in local philanthropy and projects, and they will learn about the community from community members who come in to share their experiences. If you would like to share your time and talents with our students please reach out and let us know!
