All Lakeland Schools will be virtual learning today!
Please check backpacks, folders and Schoology for assignments and schedules.

Laker families,
I just wanted to send you a quick video about e-learning on a synchronous learning day. I sent these out back in October, but we haven't had to use these types of days yet this year. Obviously, this is just in case we use one yet this year. My prediction (even though I'm not in charge of that call at all) is that we will be in person tomorrow....but just in case. Here is the run down of how an e-learning day would go with the new state guidelines. https://www.loom.com/share/3843ce9ee0414b35a4b738ed65562ff1
Have a great night Lakers and stay safe,
Mr. Schackow

7th and 8th grade families,
We are having a Junior High dance this Friday from 3:15-5:30pm in the Jr/Sr High cafeteria. Tickets are on sale at lunches now through Friday for $3 and then $5 at the door that night.

Lakeland was very proud to have both the Elementary and Secondary District 3 IAPSP Principal of the year for 2022. Let's see if we can get some nominees for this year!
The Indiana Association of School Principals is looking for nominees for the 2023 Principal and Assistant Principal of the year. You can find the information and recommendation form following this link: https://iasp.org/district-information/principal-of-the-year-program-details/
All LaGrange County Schools are located in District 3.

Class of 2027 Orientation-
Laker Families,
Just a quick reminder that tomorrow night is our first night of 9th grade orientation starting at 6pm in the Jr/Sr High Cafeteria. Last names A-L should come on Thursday the 19th, and M-Z should come on Monday the 23rd. If you can't make your assigned night, please reach out to Mr. Schackow jschackow@lakelandlakers.net to check on availability on the other night. In addition to some clubs to check out, diploma tracks, and earning credits, Mrs. Troyer will also be here to help families meet the proof of residency requirement from the state of Indiana. If you bring a bill/invoice with your address on it, she can help you get it uploaded and checked off.
See you tomorrow or Monday! Go Lakers!
Mr. Schackow

Due to illness, Bus 13 (Mrs. Setterinton's route) is running an hour late today. Sorry for the inconvenience!

Reminder: No school Monday, January 16th in observance of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday! We'll see everyone on Tuesday!

Lakers,
This afternoon we had two of the three teachers nominated for LaGrange County Educator of the Year. Mrs. Maxey and Ms. Severson were both nominated and today at the Chamber lunch we found out that Lakeland's very own Sherry Severson won the 2023 Educator of the Year. A well deserved honor for an outstanding educator. Congrats Sherry! We are truly blessed in this community to have such passionate educators.

8th Grade Families,
I know it feels early, but the first year of high school for your student is closer than we think. We have a pair of orientation nights for you to attend this month as we transition from 8th grade to high school. We will be covering activities, diploma options, earning credits and more from 6-7:30pm on Thursday 1/19/23 for last names A-L or Monday 1/23/23 for last names M-Z. We will meet in the Jr/Sr High cafeteria. If your scheduled night doesn't work for your family feel free to come to the other night as they will be the same and it's important information for you and your student. We plan on having a student and parent panel for questions about how to help your student succeed. Plan to enter through door 1 that night and we are looking forward to seeing you. If you have questions, please reach me directly at jschackow@lakelandlakers.net

Laker Families,
Our second trimester parent teacher conferences will be on Wednesday January 11th from 3:30-6:30pm. Like we did last year, these conferences will be by appointment and meet in the teachers' rooms instead of the Miller Field House like we did in the fall. Your student's teachers should be reaching out via email over the next couple of days to set up appointment times.

To help kickoff 2023, we are asking our Lakeland community of students, athletes, teachers, coaches, parents, and alumni for your thoughts and opinions. Over the course of the next few years, we are embarking on some important updates to the school buildings, and as part of that process, we are looking to refine and simplify our identity. If you look around our schools, you will see several different blues, reds, whites, and blacks used to represent our colors, many different Lakeland logos, and quite a few different opinions on how to use them.
As we plan updates to the Main Gym and Pressbox at Lakeland Jr Sr High, we see these areas as “First Impressions” of our school and our community to visitors. The Main Gym and Pressbox are places where we gather to celebrate academic and athletic accomplishments and to support our students as they compete against other schools. We want them to be done right and represent Lakeland the right way. We believe these two locations should be a starting point for setting the new Lakeland Standard as we move forward into the future, and your responses to this survey will help dictate the direction we will go together.

Thank you for taking a few minutes to complete this form, and thank you for being a Laker!

Just a reminder that Monday, January 9th is an E-Learning day for Laker Nation! Students will have online and paper/pencil tasks to complete that day. Teachers will be in professional development, but will check messages regularly.

Fog is interfering with our first day back! All Lakeland Schools are on a 2 hour delay Monday, 1-2-23. Doors will open at 7:45 am. See you then!

Just a reminder all Lakeland staff and students head back to school on Monday, January 2nd! Doors will open at 7:45 am. Welcome to 2023 Lakers!

Due to illness, we have a shortage of bus drivers this morning. Because of that Bus 16 will be running approximately 1 hour late. We're sorry for the inconvenience!

Lakeland Jr/Sr HS had a special delivery this morning from the Grinch and Cindy Lou Who!

Come support these talented students. A Tuna Christmas will be on December 15th. 16th, and 17th at 7:00. This will take place in the Lakeland Jr/Sr High School auditorium.

Due to driver shortage, bus 16 will run a little over an hour late this morning and bus 13 will run 15-30min late this morning. Sorry for the inconvenience!
